JetBrains MCP Proxy Server Setup Guide

Step 1: Install MCP Server Plugin
  1. Visit the JetBrains plugin repository.
  2. Download and install the MCP Server plugin from the following URL:
    https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/26071-mcp-server
     

Step 2: Configure Claude Desktop

  1. Locate your claude_desktop_config.json file:

    • On macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
    • On Windows: %APPDATA%/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  2. Add the following configuration to the file:

      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@jetbrains/mcp-proxy"]
      }
      }
     }
     

Step 3: Configure MCP Server

  1. If connecting to a specific IDE, add the IDE’s port to the configuration:

    "env": {
      "IDE_PORT": "<port of IDE's built-in webserver>"
     }
     
  2. To specify a different host/address for the IDE’s built-in webserver:

    "env": {
      "HOST": "<host/address of IDE's built-in webserver>"
     }
     
  3. To enable logging, add the following to the configuration:

    "env": {
      "LOG_ENABLED": "true"
     }
     

Step 4: Build the Project (macOS)

  1. Install necessary tools:

    brew install node pnpm
     
  2. Build the project using pnpm:

    pnpm build
